One of the greatest things about Key Stage 3 is that the science fun does not stop! In fact, there’s so much more to enjoy – experiments, using microscopes, Bunsen burners. High school years prior to GCSE’s are filled with being introduced to the laboratory and introducing you to the more practical side of Science. Whilst we can’t guarantee having a lab for you here at Improve, we can prepare you for your GCSE years! You will be introduced to the basics of plant and human biology, including: learning and memorising specialist terminology like homeostasis, organelles, photosynthesis, respiration, genotype; being able to label diagrams of plant cells, the respiratory process, human internal system, the heart. We will show you what to expect for GCSE Biology and how you can build up the skills to answer complex exam questions. To sum it up, your route to being a science expert can most definitely start here with us!

Just as microscopic analysis takes place for in depth understanding, GCSE biological content here at Improve is taught at a molecular level. We deliver to our pupils corresponding to the exam boards they follow in school, simultaneously working throughadvanced revision guides and workbooks. Whether it is AQA, Edexcel or OCR, you can count on us to be prepared with the materials you need. Our first step, as with any subject you require, will include assessments to identify both the stronger and the weaker topics for our newcomers. Following thorough feedback from our tutors and the interaction with parents to answer any key questions, we tailor our time to precisely cover all content leading up to the exam. This will include complex cell biology – including the processes of meiosis and mitosis; transport systems in humans and animals; the causes of infections and how to prevent them; photosynthesis and respiration; the central nervous system; the endocrine system – including types of hormones; reproduction – including evolution theory, inheritance , genotype; ecology – including food chains and biodiversity. All pupils will have the opportunity to purchase their very own handbooks from the wide range we have on offer to benefit our students.

Our staff are well aware that taking biology at A level is difficult, especially when the next step to University has specific grade requirements. Many of our existing pupils aspire to go into healthcare careers such as Medicine and Dentistry – paths that only take on those with minimum grade A in the sciences. Whilst you might think that with your target grades and previous grade scores, this may not be possible, with the correct guidance, understanding and practice, we can assure you that they are attainable. Our experienced tutors will deliver to you in a substantial manner, aiding you with both helpful revision strategies and content, as well as thoroughly answering any questions you may have. We will cover with you content including biochemistry – DNA and enzymes, genetics – variation and stem cells, metabolism – aerobic and anaerobic respiration, transport – gas exchange and sugar/water transport in plants, reproduction – meiosis and mitosis, control systems , – the nervous system and the endocrine system.
