Learning about atoms and states of matter is a core essential to understanding the subject of Chemistry. It is not uncommon that many pupils struggle to understand these scientific terms and the way they operate. Our tutors work hard to propose real life examples to students to support their learning, including encouragement to use the surroundings to grasp knowledge. We promote the use of vocabulary and synonyms of certain words, to aid student comprehension. Topics we cover include: states of matter – solids, liquids & gasses; atoms, elements & the periodic table; chemical reactions – the making of CO2; acids,alkalis salts – including neutralisation and the pH scale; Metals and polymers. Once we feel pupils are ready, we begin to explore further curriculum areas such as fossil fuels, the rock cycle, uses of crude oil, getting prepared for the level of scientific knowledge expected in the GCSE years.

Whether pupils attend our centres for combined science or triple science, our experienced tutors specialise in equipping them with the knowledge they require for the upcoming exams. We thoroughly go through specifications set out by all exam boards, including: OCR, Edexcel and AQA. This covers a variety of topics including: Atomic Structures & The Periodic Table – groups, transition metals; Bonding – ionic, covalent, nanoscience; Structure and the properties of matter; Quantitative Chemistry – calculations of percentage yield ; Chemical Changes – titration, electrolysis; Energy Changes – endothermic, exothermic; Organic Chemistry – crude oil, hydrocarbons; Chemical analysis of different substances; Chemistry of the atmosphere and skills concerning practicality. Additionally, we can provide you with effective revision methods and strategies that will help you to remember everything you need for the papers.

As a practical science, the subject of chemistry is a common A level taken by pupils nationwide. It is a prerequisite to many high level careers, including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, geology and chemical engineering. Divided into the 3 sections of Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry, we teach the knowledge you will need to learn and understand during both year 12 and 13. This includes complex and gradual build up of knowledge on: Structure and bonding, kinetics, mole calculations, halogenoalkanes, organic synthesis, optical isomerism, chromatography,thermodynamics, equilibrium, reactions of ions in aqueous solutions and electrochemical cells. As with all A level subjects, your knowledge extension will be provided in year 13 however, we can touch upon this during year 12 in order to prepare you for the next year.
