What we cover

Every part of the AA grade.

The papers and the coursework are marked differently. We prepare for both.

Paper 1No calculator

The non-calculator paper

AA's signature challenge.

We build the fluency to work cleanly without a calculator.

Paper 2Calculator

The calculator paper

Using the GDC well — and knowing when not to.

Method marks matter as much as the answer.

Paper 3HL only

Extended problem-solving

The long, unfamiliar HL questions.

We practise the thinking, not just the topics.

The Internal Assessment

The Exploration is 20% of the grade.

It's a written mathematical investigation — and where many students lose easy marks.

  • Choosing a topicThe right idea makes the whole thing easier.
  • Structuring the write-upClear aim, method, and reflection.
  • Maths at the right levelEnough depth to score, without overreaching.

We guide and check the Exploration. We never write it for the student.

How we teach

Find the gap. Then teach it.

AA punishes shaky foundations. We fix those first, then build exam technique.

Diagnose

A short check finds exactly where the marks are leaking.

Rebuild

Secure the algebra and calculus the harder topics depend on.

Exam technique

Real IB papers, real timing, real method marks.

Confidence

The calm to open Paper 1 and just start.

01 / Who this is for

Who IB Maths AA tuition helps.

Students usually come to us when one of these sounds familiar:

  • A university offer rides on the HL gradeMaths, engineering and economics often need AA HL.
  • Paper 1 is the problemThe non-calculator paper is exposing gaps.
  • The pace jumpedAA moves fast, and it built on things left behind.
  • The Exploration is stuckNo topic, or no idea how to structure it.
  • A predicted grade needs liftingOne or two grades can change the offer.
02 / What may be happening

Same course. Different gap.

Two AA students can need completely different work.

  • One needs algebra fluency for the non-calculator paper.
  • Another needs calculus and proof for HL depth.
  • A third just needs the Exploration unblocked.

More past papers won't fix a gap we haven't named yet.

03 / Free assessment

Confirm the gap before lessons begin.

The assessment is a short, guided check, done online at a time that suits you.

By the end, we can tell you which AA topics need work, and what to fix first.

04 / How tuition follows

After the assessment, tuition follows the plan.

Your tutor works from that plan — not a generic IB pack.

Our DBS-checked tutors teach to the exact AA route and level you're taking.

  • Secure the foundationsThe algebra and calculus AA leans on.
  • Build exam staminaTimed papers, real technique, calm under pressure.
05 / Before you decide

What you'll know by the end.

  • Where the gaps sit — SL or HL, papers or Exploration.
  • A recommended plan, if it would actually help.
  • An honest view of the grade that's realistic.
  • No pressure to continue either way.
06 / Questions

The questions students and parents ask most.

What is IB Maths AA (Analysis & Approaches)?

It's one of the two IB maths courses, focused on algebra, calculus and proof.

It's the route for students heading toward maths-heavy university degrees, offered at SL and HL.

What's the difference between AA SL and AA HL?

HL covers more, goes deeper into calculus and proof, and adds Paper 3.

AA HL is one of the most demanding courses in the whole Diploma.

Do you help with the Exploration (IA)?

Yes. We help choose a topic, structure the write-up, and pitch the maths at the right level.

We guide and check it — we never write it for the student.

Do you tutor IB Maths AA online?

Yes. Every lesson is live and online, one-to-one or in a small group.

We teach students across the UK and internationally.

Which papers does AA have?

Paper 1 is non-calculator; Paper 2 allows a graphic display calculator.

HL adds Paper 3. All routes include the Exploration.

Is the assessment really free?

Yes. No payment to book it, and no obligation to continue.

We use it to find the gaps and explain the clearest next step.

How much does it cost?

From £14.50 per hour in a group of 4–5, £22.50 in a small group of 2–3, or £39.50 one-to-one.

Your exact rate is confirmed after the free assessment.
