Day and Night and the Four Seasons
- day one complete rotation of the earth which takes 24 hours
- sun doesn’t really move. When places facing the sun
= daytime. When places face away the sun into dark space = night time
- year = takes 365 days for earth to orbit once around the sun.
- seasons = caused by tilt of the earth’s axis .
-
        Summer:
- when summer in UK, the northern hemisphere (everything above the equator ) is tilted towards the sun .
- northern half of earth spends more time in sunlight = longer days, shorter nights = more hours of sunshine = land heats up.
- suns rays cover a small area of land = radiation is focused = warm = summer
-
 Winter:
- when winter in the UK, the northern hemisphere tilted away from the sun.
- north spends less time in sunlight = shorter days, longer nights.
- Suns rays cover larger area = radiation more spread out = colder = winter
